Chrysler Electronic Voice Alert
Speech Synthesis Module

There are small differences between the varying years of the EVA. Most of the changes in the 24 function unit deal with the manner in which the EVA used the speakers and muted the radio. In 1984, the EVA muted the radio by disconnecting all the speakers from the radio and connecting the front speakers to the EVA unit. By 1985, the EVA used a mute signal to quiet the radio and connected the front left speakers to the EVA unit. In 1987, the EVA used the mute signal to hush up the radio and had its' very own EVA speaker. I have documented the various wiring arrangements and plugs below.

Here is the circuit board for the module. The large chip on the left contains the messages.

The message chip is the top one in this picture. You can determine the language from the four digit number in the lower left corner. You do not have to open the unit to see this number. The number is visible through a hole in the top of the unit.

2346 - English

2400 - French

2498 - Spanish

Please Note: The colors on the wiring sometimes fade, making exact wire ID difficult.

Pin 25 does not show a connection in this picture, but it is connected to the battery with a red wire on 1984 and 1985 units. The EVA does not require the red wire (battery connection). In 1987 J Body cars, pin 25 was used for the shoulder belt.
